Barack Obama's Tumblr account gears up for 2012 election

barack-obama-tumblr.jpgSince social media was credited with lighting a fire under Barack Obama's first presidential campaign, he's already branching out in anticipation of the 2012 battle to keep the gig. On Monday (Oct. 24), Obama launched his official campaign tumblr page, again leading the pack when it comes to engaging voters online.

tumblr is yet another micro-blogging site that allows users to post text, multimedia and a range of stuff that just doesn't fit in Twitter's 140 character message limit.

"There are lots of reasons we're excited to be launching the Obama 2012 campaign's new Tumblr today," reads Obama's first Tumblr post. "But mostly it's because we're looking at this as an opportunity to create something that's not just ours, but yours, too. We'd like this Tumblr to be a huge collaborative storytelling effort--a place for people across the country to share what's going on in our respective corners of it and how we're getting involved in this campaign to keep making it better."

And, no, the president isn't actually writing the tumblr posts himself. On Tuesday, a post addressed just that:

"To answer a question that's come up a lot: No, the President isn't the one writing this Tumblr. He's got a fair number of non-Tumblr things to do on any given day, we wager. We're 2012 staffers working mostly out of Chicago."

So far, the feed is heavy on text. Just one photo -- of a staffer packing cell phone for campaign workers -- has been posted.
