Barkhad Abdi's first movie role in "Captain Phillips" earned him an Oscar nomination on Thursday (Jan. 16) morning. When asked about it on the 2014 Critics' Choice Awards red carpet later that same day, Abdi was nothing but thrilled.

Before the nominations, he was awake, not having been able to sleep the night before. That's not a huge shock when you're talking about a man who was a taxi driver in Minneapolis before getting his breakthrough role.

The excitement only grew for Abdi when he heard about the nomination.

"I was jumping up and down," he says with a smile. "It was so much for me, much more than a dream come true."

While some seasoned actors begin to look disinterested after several nominations, Abdi is not in that category. "I'm really humbled and honored by all the nominations," he explains. "You can't get better than this."

He isn't wrong. It has been a good year for the actor, even if he didn't take home the Critics' Choice Award he was nominated for.
