A&E's Season 2 order is for an additional 10 episodes, expected to premiere in 2014. Three episodes of Season 1 have aired so far, with the series' premiere episode ranking as the most-watched original drama debut in key demos in A&E's history. The premiere scored 4.5 million viewers including 2.5 million adults 25-54 and adults 18-49 in Live+7 ratings.

Season 2 will reunite most of the key cast including stars Vera Farmiga and Freddie Highmore and co-stars Max Thieriot, Olivia Cooke, Nicola Peltz and Nestor Carbonell.

Missing from the Season 2 cast is co-star Mike Vogel, but that's not surprising since Vogel booked a series regular role on CBS' upcoming Stephen King drama "Under the Dome" and his character was revealed to have quite a dark side in last week's episode.

"'Bates Motel' has garnered critical acclaim and a loyal audience in its first few weeks," A&E president Bob DeBitetto said in a statement. "With superb writing and exceptional acting, led by the critically acclaimed performances of Vera Farmiga and Freddie Highmore, we're incredibly excited to see where [executive producers] Carlton [Cuse] and Kerry [Ehrin] take Norma and Norman Bates next."
