Tricia Helfer ( "Battlestar Galactica," "Killer Women") has been cast to star in Syfy's upcoming event series, "Ascension."

"Ascension" tells the story of a covert space mission launched in 1963, sending hundreds of men, women and children on a 100-year journey to populate a new planet. Fifty years into the trip, just as the Ascension nears its point of no return, the murder of a young woman brings up questions about the ship's mission.

Helfer will play Viondra Denniger, the ship's chief steward as well as the wife of the Ascension's captain. Viondra sees herself as a major power broker and holds a position of power and privilege. Described as beautiful, manipulative and dangerous, Viondra may be a hero or a villain.

Best known for the role of Number Six on "Battlestar Galactica," Helfer recently starred in "Killer Women," and has appeared on "Burn Notice," "Dark Blue," "Two and a Half Men," and "Warehouse 13."

Written and created by Philip Levens ("Smallville"), "Ascension" is scheduled to premiere in November 2014.
