Beach Boys, Brian Wilson to tour again after 46 years!
The band last toured with Wilson back in 1965, though they continued to record together after that. The troubled Wilson is believed to have reached his tipping point, sliding into drug use and depression while recording "Smile," the band's experimental album. It wasn't completed back in 1967, though it was finally released earlier this year.
The two other founding members of the group, Wilson's brothers, are no longer with us. Dennis passed away back in 1983 from drowning, and Carl from cancer in 1998. Wilson said in a statement, "This anniversary is special to me because I miss the boys and it will be a thrill for me to make a new record and be on stage with them again."
The guys have already begun to record their still nameless new album. Singer Mike Love said, "Brian paid me a compliment saying, 'How can a guy sound that great so many years later?' " he said in a statement. "Later on, while working out some harmonies on a new song Brian had written, I got a chance to return the compliment."
The 50-date tour kicks off in April with a headlining stint at Jazz Fest in New Orleans. Other cities and dates have yet to be announced.
