'Beauty and the Beast': Kristin Kreuk gets saved on The CW this fall

Kristin Kreuk is back on The CW in "Beauty and the Beast," her first regular TV role since she left "Smallville."

Kreuk plays Catherine Chandler, a homicide detective who years earlier witnessed the murder of her mother -- which you can in turn witness in the clip above, what we're assuming is something of a prologue in the pilot. The gunmen would have killed her too, were it not for the beast ( Jay Ryan of "Terra Nova") who saved her.

In the present, Catherine comes across the beast -- actually a man named Vincent -- again and discovers his secret: "When he is enraged, he becomes a terrifying beast, unable to control his super-strength and heightened senses."

The CW's "Beauty and the Beast," which will air at 9 p.m. ET Thursdays next season, is a loose remake of the 1980s CBS series that starred Linda Hamilton and Ron Perlman, who wore a whole lot of prosthetic makeup for his role as Vincent. But this is The CW, and we're guessing the new show won't keep Ryan's face hidden unless he's Hulking out.

What do you think of the clip? Will you be watching "Beauty and the Beast" this fall?
