'Beauty of the Beast' Season 2 finale: Enjoy and fear the epic ride of 'Deja Vu'Add to Favorites | Beauty and the Beast
Zap2it: What can fans expect from the Season 2 finale?
Brad Kern: I think it's safe to say that it's epic. We saved a lot of money over the year to make the last episode worthy of the season finale. It certainly will be tense and emotional and play off of all the mythology that was layered throughout the season. It leans heavily into Cat's place in the mythology and her understanding of what the journals that she discovered are all about, which she'll need to understand to do everything she can to be able to save Vincent.
How much trouble is Gabe going to cause now that he's a beast again?
Big trouble! Season finale big trouble! I mean, again we didn't know if this was going to be the series finale or not. When we were making it, the Season 3 pickup didn't come until after we shot the episode and edited the episode. So we designed it to be two things. We designed it so if it had to be a series finale, we designed it to be big and epic and emotionally epic and cinematically epic and adventurous. We designed it to be a huge finale, which we think we accomplished.
Gabe's turning into a beast and all the emotional energy he's carrying with that, and the risk to Vincent and what he will have to do to stop Gabe, and what Catherine will have to do to try to save both Vincent and without losing their love. All that are elements or strands that we laid out over the course of the season that all comes to a head at this point.
He's as big of a threat as we've ever had on the show at this point. He's determined to save Cat from Vincent. If he can't have Cat, in his now beast-warped heart, he's gone off the deep end in every way. And that's what's going to make the season finale so emotionally wrenching for the audience. Because what he's going to try to do, in order to lure Vincent into the ultimate battle is going to be shocking to the audience.
What does Gabe's ruthlessness mean for characters like JT, Tess and Heather?
Gabe is going to -- he's off the rails now. He's going to do whatever he needs to, whatever he can do to stop Vincent. And many of those players you just talked about will be in play. And could very well get caught in the crossfire. That will play into -- because we do love JT and Tess so much, Austin and Nina are so terrific together -- that becomes added emotional urgency to Cat and Vincent trying to successfully stop Gabe. Their ability to survive this episode is going to be a key question.
What should fans look for as teases for Season 3?
I think it's pretty clear, I think they'll be able to see -- our audience is pretty savvy -- picking up on what is seeded for the next chapter. I think that the audience should really just focus on what we think is a very special, epic episode and enjoy-slash-fear the ride.
The "Beauty and the Beast" Season 2 finale airs Monday (July 7) at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
