'Behind the Candelabra' scores flashy ratings for HBO
The Liberace biopic starring Michael Douglas and Matt Damon debuted to 2.4 million viewers Sunday night (May 26). Over two airings Sunday, the movie brought in a total of 3.5 million people.
That's the biggest audience for an HBO original film since May 30, 2004, when 2.6 million people watched "Something the Lord Made." Last year's "Game Change" drew 2.1 million viewers.
Reviews for "Behind the Candelabra" ( including Zap2it's) were almost uniformly positive, and HBO put a big marketing push behind the movie, which Steven Soderbergh directed. It appears to have paid off.
