Benedict Cumberbatch is out of Guillermo del Toro's new horror film "Crimson Peak." According to reports, there was no reason given for his departure.

Variety, the same site that announced Cumberbatch was involved in the project, broke the news he left the film. Cumberbatch's role in "Crimson Peak" was not revealed.

The "Sherlock" star isn't the only actor to opt out of the horror film. Emma Stone was originally slated to star in the movie, but she ended up leaving and was replaced by Mia Wasikowska. The cast currently includes Wasikowska, Charlie Hunnam and Jessica Chastain.

"Crimson Peak" is due to start filming in February. Though little is known about the movie's story, del Toro has said it's a "very set-oriented classical but at the same time modern take on the ghost story" that would allow him to "play with the conventions of the genre I know and love, and at the same time subvert the old rules."
