"Doctor Strange" is casting its lead, and Benedict Cumberbatch ( "Sherlock") and Tom Hardy ("The Dark Knight Rises") are reportedly front-runners to play the Marvel comic-book hero.

According to Deadline, Marvel is looking at these two men -- as well as others -- to play the lead in a feature-film adaptation of the Doctor Strange story. The comic was first created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko in 1963 and features a neurosurgeon who also happens to be an Earth-protecting sorcerer.

Kevin Feige is set to produce this Marvel adaptation, while Scott Derrickson will direct a script written by Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer.

Will Cumberbatch or Hardy get the role? It's too early to say for sure, seeing as both actors -- while up-and-coming stars -- are both busy with film roles.
