Benicio Del Toro joins 'Guardians of the Galaxy' in lead role
Just a few short days after it was revealed that both Glenn Close and "Doctor Who" favorite Karen Gillan had joined the already star-studded ensemble, Deadline reports on Monday (June 3) that Benicio Del Toro has come aboard the James Gunn-directed film.
His role is being kept under wraps, but Deadline says it's a lead role and one that's built to be a part of future Marvel films, meaning Del Toro has signed a deal with options to insert him in several films.
Joining Del Toro, Close and Gillan join the previously-announced Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker and John C. Reilly. Production on the film is expected to begin mid-June in the U.K.
