'Betrayal' trailer: ABC doubles up on soapy melodrama for Sundays with new drama
This season, ABC failed to find a drama that it could launch behind "Revenge" on Sundays at 10 p.m. and make stick, with both "666 Park Avenue" and "Red Window" tanking. In the newly-released trailer for "Betrayal," the network's fall attempt in the time slot, it's made clear that ABC hopes that by giving "Revenge" fans more of the same, they'll stick around.
"Betrayal" tells the story of Sara Hadley ( Hannah Ware, "Boss") and Attorney Jack McAllister ( Stuart Townsend, "Queen of the Damned"), whose chance meeting leads to an illicit love affair. The only problem? They both married, and Sara's prosecutor husband is taking on a high-profile murder case involving Jack's in-laws -- on in which Jack is lead counsel on. James Cromwell, Henry Thomas ("E.T.") and Chris J. Johnson ("The Vampire Diaries") co-star.
The trailer hits all the requisite melodramatic beats, including the nearly comical image of Sara shattering a wine bottle and slowly sliding down her kitchen wall after learning of her colliding worlds. This similarly-named soap ought to pair quite nicely with "Revenge," indeed.
Do you think ABC has another soapy hit on its hands? Or is this nothing more than a sudsy dud?
"Betrayal" premieres this fall on ABC on Sundays at 10 p.m. ET.
