Michael McKean ("This Is Spinal Tap," "Best in Show") will star alongside Bob Odenkirk and Jonathan Banks in the series, Deadline reports. The show is a prequel to "Breaking Bad," focusing on lawyer Saul Goodman (Odenkirk) before he ever met Walter White.

McKean will play a character named Dr. Thurber, a brilliant attorney with an "unusual affliction" that restricts his movements. Just how he fits into the world of Saul and Mike (Banks) remains to be seen.

"Better Call Saul" co-creator Vince Gilligan has worked with McKean in the past: The actor appeared on a handful of "X-Files" episodes, all of them written or co-written by Gilligan, and one episode of the spinoff "The Lone Gunmen."

"Better Call Saul" is set to premiere later this year on AMC.
