Billy Joel and wife Katie Lee Joel split
The music's over for Billy Joel and his wife Katie Lee, reports People.
"After nearly five years of marriage Billy Joel & Katie Lee Joel have decided to separate," says a joint statement by reps for both parties.
"This decision is a result of much thoughtful consideration. Billy & Katie remain caring friends with admiration and respect for each other."
Tales of trouble in paradise have been buzzed about for months. Lee has been seen hanging out with Yigal Azrouel, a dashing 36-year-old Israeli-born fashion designer, although Joel's rep claims the split is unrelated to Azrouel.
The "Piano Man," 60, dated Lee, 27, for a year before tying the knot in October 2004.
The five-time Grammy winner has sold more than 150 million albums worldwide and has been performing with Elton John on the Face to Face tour. Joel has been married twice before, in the '70s to Elizabeth Webber Small and in the '80s to model Christie Brinkley. They have a daughter together, Alexa Ray, who was maid of honor to Katie Lee.
Lee is a chef and TV personality who has appeared on a number of TV shows and hosted the first season of Bravo's "Top Chef" before being replaced by Padma Lakshmi.
