'Boardwalk Empire': A toast to Prohibition
Nucky Thompson ( Steve Buscemi) runs the liquor business in Atlantic City, N.J., at the dawn of Prohibition in 1920, thanks to -- as he says in the newest trailer for the series -- "those beautiful, ignorant b***ards" in Congress. He and his political/criminal cronies are toasting to the idea of all the money that will flow from the illegal liquor trade, but every other gangster in the country has the same idea.
The new trailer also introduces us to some of Nucky's allies and rivals for the Prohibition trade -- including the likes of Lucky Luciano ( Vincent Piazza, "Rescue Me"), Big Jim Colosimo ( Frank Crudele), Arnold Rothstein ( Michael Stuhlbarg, "A Serious Man") and a young Al Capone ( Stephen Graham, "Public Enemies"), of whom Nucky's right-hand man Jimmy Darmody ( Michael Pitt) asks, "You guys gonna get into the liquor business too?"
We've been saying for some time that we're excited about "Boardwalk Empire," and the new trailer does nothing to diminish that. We've got its Sept. 19 premiere circled on the calendar.
Here's the newest trailer.
