'Bones' Season 10: Psychics, prison and more Comic-Con 2014 spoilersAdd to Favorites | Bones
In between sets of the "David Boreanaz jokes around a lot" hour, Nathan, Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel managed to spill a few details about the show's upcoming 10th season, thanked fans for their dedication and showed just how bonkers things can get when you work with someone for a decade (think: silly songs, mocking the way Boreanaz says the word "bullets," other generally kooky things).
The group is still working on the first episode back, but there was enough footage to show a short clip of where we'll be when the show returns -- Booth is in an orange prison jumpsuit, getting into fights with his fellow inmates.
"We saw Booth getting hauled off to jail and we saw Booth and Brennan being split apart," says Nathan. "Four months later we come back with Booth in jail and Brennan and everyone else doing anything they possibly can to [find information that will get him freed]."
It won't take long for the team to get a break in the case when they uncover new information from a set of remains, which is probably a good thing for Booth, since prison is not a safe place for a former law enforcement officer.
"Well, the food's not too good," Boreanaz jokes of his character's plight before getting serious. "I think we will see a different side of him. ... I think he is definitely in a state of confusion with his present state of mind, where he fits in the Bureau, where he fits with Brennan."
Adds Nathan, "This is the first time he's been betrayed by an institution that he devoted his life to and risked his life for. ... It really shakes the foundation of the entire premise of the show -- whether he can trust the FBI, how he can get back to work. It's a big hurdle for him to overcome."
And even if the Jeffersonian team is able to find one of the people who framed Booth, they might not resolve the whole thing. "The conspiracy is something that's been going on, we'll find out, for decades. While they can catch one murderer that doesn't mean all murder stops. They will put a stop to this within the first few episodes, but the reality [is that this] conspiracy can't go away completely. It's something that will be on the canvas of this show for this season."
In addition to the conspiracy unraveling, Nathan says the show will tackle issues as serious as human trafficking and as fun as psychics -- and yes, the show hopes to bring back Cyndi Lauper. Booth and Brennan will also be going undercover again, and other episodes will feature the murder of a Rush Limbaugh-like character, a take on "The Wolf of Wall Street" and a murder at a forensics convention.
With the milestone 200th episode coming up, co-creator Hart Hanson will return to "Bones" (he's been busy running his new FOX drama, "Backstrom") to write the landmark episode -- which will be directed by Boreanaz.
"The 200th is going to be a special episode," Nathan teases. "It's going to be one of our odd ones. It's not going to be a typical murder. I think Hart will come back and we'll write that one together."
