'Borgias' canceled? Season 4 may morph into two hour finale specialAdd to Favorites | The Borgias
Deadline is reporting that Showtime is currently leaning toward scrapping a planned Season 4 of the show in favor of a two hour wrap-up movie instead. While four full seasons would match the run of "Borgias" unofficial predecessor "The Tudors," Showtime recently transformed the fourth and final season of "The Big C" into a limited series of four one hour episodes.
Series creator Neil Jordan indicated "Borgias" could be headed for a similar fate earlier this year in an interview with U.K.'s Broadcast.
"['Borgias' has] gone on for three years and there's only four years in it," Jordan said. "At the moment, we're discussing it with Showtime. I would like to finish it with a two-hour movie. Another 10 episodes is kind of exhausting. I've mapped out a movie, which, if they agree, will shoot in June with the same cast, and finally the Pope will die horribly."
But Jordan did note that Showtime "may want a full [season]," and Deadline indicates that the official decision will come closer to the end of the show's current Season 3 run. The finale airs June 23, so either Showtime makes the call early or Jordan will have to start shooting later than he thought.
