Box Office: '21 Jump Street' jumps to the top, 'The Lorax' remains strong

tatum-jump-street.jpg "21 Jump Street" jumped out to a solid opening weekend, earning $34 million, according to studio estimates for Sunday. The Channing Tatum- Jonah Hill romp has been getting pretty good reviews, too, as a silly, light-hearted comedy. Did you see it this weekend? What did you think?

"Dr. Seuss' The Lorax" also stayed strong, earning $21 million its third weekend in theaters, bringing its domestic box office total to over $150 million. However, "John Carter" had a disappointing second weekend, earning just $13 million, bringing its total to just over $50 million. That's not so hot for a film that cost $250 million to make. If it doesn't do better internationally, it may officially be called a bomb.

Will Ferrell's indie film "Casa de Mi Padre" opened to $1.9 M at only 382 locations nationwide, a really good showing, especially considering it only cost $6 million to make.
