Box office: 'Insidious: Chapter 2' scares away the Friday competition

It may not have been Halloween, but horror movies owned the night on Friday (Sept. 13). "Insidious: Chapter 2" earned over $20 million on opening night, putting it miles ahead of the competition.

"The Family" came in second, but was nowhere near close to "Insidious: Chapter 2" with just $5.4 million on Friday, followed by "Riddick" with $2.2 million on its second weekend in theaters.

The rest of the top 10 for Friday is as follows:
