Box office: 'Insidious: Chapter 2's' horrifyingly great opening weekend

Friday the 13th was the perfect opening weekend for the horror film "Insidious: Chapter 2," as the weekend box office earnings are terrifyingly great.

The horror movie sequel earned just under $41.1 million for the weekend, putting it miles ahead of the competition. Coming in (not even a close) second was "The Family," earning just $14.5 million for the weekend.

Coming in third was Vin Diesel's "Riddick," earning just over $7 million in its second weekend out.

"We're the Millers," $5.42 million

"Instructions Not Included," $4.3 million

"Planes," $3.1 million

"One Direction: This Is Us," $2.4 million

"Elysium," $2.1 million
