Box Office: 'Riddick' on top of an anemic Friday

riddick-vin-diesel-poll.jpgThe fall 2013 movie season has kicked off -- but not exactly with a bang. "Riddick," the third installment in the Vin Diesel series of sci-fi action movies, brought in just $7.3 million on Friday, which puts it on pace for earning under $20 million total for its opening weekend.

Taking second was "Lee Daniels' The Butler" at $2.3 million on Friday, followed by "We're the Millers" at $2.2 million, "Instructions Not Included" at $1.6 million and "One Direction: This Is Us" at $1.1 million.

In contrast to this weekend a year ago, the numbers are up, but this weekend in 2012 also didn't have any big movie openings.

The rest of the Top 10 is as follows:

"Elysium," $887K
"Planes," $862K
"Blue Jasmine," $655K
"The World's End," $697K
"Getaway," $640K
