the-avengers-jeremy-renner-chris-evans-scarlett-johansson-disney.jpg "The Avengers" has maintained its box office title for the third week in a row. According to studio estimates, the popular superhero movie will earn $55 million this weekend, bringing its domestic box office total to $457 million.

The gap between first and second this weekend was pretty striking. . "Battleship" earned a softer-than-expected $25.4 million, followed by "The Dictator" at $17.4 million. "Dark Shadows" was fourth at $12.8 million and "What to Expect When You're Expecting" earned a weak $10.5 million across almost 3500 locations.

Can any Memorial Day Weekend movies topple "The Avengers" from the top spot? "Men in Black III" is opening, but we aren't sure that will be quite the hit the first one was. Perhaps found-footage horror movie "The Chernobyl Diaries" can do it.
