Box Office: 'The Expendables 2' dominates the big screen

sylvester-stallone-expendables-2-lionsgate.jpgFriday box office estimates are in, and it looks like "The Expendables 2" stars Sylvester Stallone, Chuck Norris, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Jean-Claude Van Damme have still got it. The high-octane sequel raked in approximately $10.5 million in its opening night, putting it at No. 1 in initial estimates. When "The Expendables" debuted two years ago, they pulled in $38 million in the first weekend, so Stallone and co. do have some ground to cover this weekend to match expectations.

"The Bourne Legacy" continues to perform strong, coming in at No. 2 on Friday. Focus Features' family fare, "Paranorman," debuted at No. 3 with a $4.56 million haul. The stop-motion animation movie is expected to pick up steam on Saturday and Sunday as kids and their parents escape the heat for some time in front of the big screen.

Whitney Houston's "Sparkle" was just behind it with $4.55 million. The "Dreamgirls"-lite film stars Jordan Sparks and marks Houston's final feature film; she finished work on the movie shortly before her unexpected death in February. Sony hopes to see the film match its $14.5 million budget this weekend.

Rounding out the top 5 was Warner Bros. election comedy "The Campaign," starring Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis.
