Box office: 'Titanic' on course with an iceberg named 'Avatar'
"Avatar" came through the weekend of Jan. 23 with a worldwide box office total of $1.841 billion. James Cameron's "Titanic's" worldwide box office total was $1.843 billion.
One has to think the last two million will be reached by Monday, Jan. 25, making "Avatar" the highest-grossing international movie of all time.
Domestically, "Avatar" is at $552.8 million, still almost $50 million shy of "Titanic's" $600 million domestic box office take. "Avatar" took home $36 million the weekend of Jan. 23. If that can hold steady the next two weekends, "Avatar" should take the domestic title within two weeks.
"Avatar's" Jan. 23 box office win makes it the first movie since "Titanic" to rule the box office for six straight weeks.
What does "Titanic" have to say about this? [ clang clang] "'Avatar,' right ahead!"
