Box Office: Tom Cruise's 'Oblivion' off to a strong start on Friday

oblivion-tom-cruise-universal.jpgThe Tom Cruise sci-fi movie "Oblivion" took in $13.3 million, putting it on pace for nearly $40 million in earnings its opening weekend -- a robust debut indeed.

"Oblivion" was the only new wide release, but carry-over "42," the Jackie Robinson film, was second with $5.2 million, followed by family animated movie "The Croods" at 2.23 million, bringing its domestic box office take to nearly $150 million total.

"Scary Movie 5" was in fourth place at just over $2 million and "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" was in fifth at $1.5 million.
