Box Office: Weekend estimates give 'Eclipse' a happy Fourth of July
What is surprising, however, is the success of "The Last Airbender." The film's estimates have been revised, since it's doing much better than expected, despite dismal reviews and poor word-of-mouth from fans of the original animated series. Now, the film is expected to hit a target of $40.6 million this weekend, pushing its total to $70.5 million, a respectable No. 2 on the box office list.
Rounding out the top five are "Toy Story 3," "Grown Ups," and "Knight and Day." The total for this weekend's Top 12 is expected to reach $184.2 million, which is very strong compared to this weekend in 2009, which hit $155.4 million. 2009's Fourth of July weekend was led by "Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen."
