Box Office: 'Wolverine' on top Friday, but below estimates

wolverine-photo-4.jpgThe new Hugh Jackman "Wolverine" movie was on top of the Friday box office, but new estimates for its opening weekend only have the superhero movie at $53-56 million and not the $63 million the studio was predicting, according to Deadline. That puts it well below the last "Wolverine" movie, "Origins," which opened to over $85 million, despite being widely panned by critics.

Holdover "The Conjuring" scared up $7.3 million on Friday for second place, followed by "Despicable Me 2" at $4.8 million, "Turbo 3D" at $4 million and "Grown Ups 2" in fifth place with $3.6 million. The domestic box office total for "Despicable" is now over $300 million and "Grown Ups 2" is over $100 million.

The rest of the Top 10:

6. "Red 2," $2.7 M
7. "Pacific Rim 3D," $2.2 M
8. "The Heat," $2 M
9. "R.I.P.D. 3D," $1.8 M
