"Nashville" has a lot of country-music cred for a TV show. Not only do the stars of the show sing their own songs (almost all of them original compositions written for the show), but "Nashville" has also been embraced by the real-life country music community.

The latest evidence of that? Country music superstar Brad Paisley will guest-star and perform in the season finale, "I'll Never Get Out of This World Alive."

According to ExtraTV.com, Paisley will appear as himself in order to perform with Rayna ( Connie Britton) and Deacon ( Charles Esten). The full extent of Paisley's role and the level to which he will be important to the season-ending plot is not yet known.

This isn't the biggest surprise of a country star to make an appearance on "Nashville." After all, Paisley's real-life wife, Kimberly Williams-Paisley, has recurred throughout the season as Teddy Conrad's ( Eric Close) mistress, Peggy Kenter.

What else can we expect from the first "Nashville" season finale? Although the show has not yet been renewed for a second season, it seems likely that this freshman success will return. As a result, there may be some cliffhangers coming. The episode's title, "I'll Never Get Out of This World Alive," also sounds rather ominous. But we are dealing with country music here -- titles in this genre are notoriously over-dramatic. Alternatively, someone could die.

We will find out for sure when the "Nashville" season finale airs on Wednesday, May 22 at 10pm on ABC.
