Arianda, currently starring in Broadway drama "Venus in Fur," has signed on to play the title role in a Joplin project from director Sean Durkin ( "Martha Marcy May Marlene"). Deadline reports that Arienda will sing using her own voice and that shooting is scheduled to begin in 2013.

Several actresses/singers -- including Zooey Deschanel, Pink, Renee Zellweger and Amy Adams -- have been rumored to be circling the role in a few different projects, none of which have made it to production.

Arianda had minor roles in four recent movies, including Woody Allen's "Midnight in Paris."
