'Brothers & Sisters': Why 'Everwood's' Gregory Smith isn't on it
The young actor, best-known for his four seasons as moody piano prodigy Ephram Brown on "Everwood," worked on that series with "Brothers" executive producer Greg Berlanti.
So why hasn't he appeared on the Sunday ABC drama series? The answer: Another "Everwood" alum got there first.
"I think it would be tough to have Emily and me on the same show again," Smith explains to Zap2it about Emily VanCamp, the Rebecca of "Brothers" who shared many scenes with Smith playing Amy to his Ephram. "I've been by to visit the set, though, because I have so many friends who work there."
Smith also trailed Berlanti to another ABC show he did, "Eli Stone," and for a very specific reason.
"One thing I hope to do soon is to start directing, so I shadowed him on an episode and watched him prep. You spend a lot of time around directors, but that's so different from what you do as an actor, you want to spend as much time as possible [learning that]. Then a couple of weeks later, they asked me to come in and do a scene on the show."
Next, Smith will be seen co-starring on the ABC summer police drama "Rookie Blue," premiering Thursday, June 24. He got to film the U.S.-Canadian co-production in his native Toronto.
"I moved when I was four," he reports, "but I've been back there to shoot many, many times over the years. It's always been one of my favorite cities in the world, and I have a place there that I got while working on this show. I spend as much time there as possible."
