'Buffy' marathon on Chiller! We pick our favorite season one moments
Starting at 6 a.m. ET, the horror channel will be airing Season 1 in its entirety and on Monday, Nov. 8 Chiller will begin airing the series in its regular time-slot, weekdays at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. Better start clearing those DVRs, Scoobies!
Never ones to give up the chance to write about one of our all-time favorite shows, we decided to use this most awesome-st of awesome news to countdown our favorite Season 1 moments. So, in the immortal words of Andrew Wells: "Come with me now, if you will, gentle viewers. Join me on a new voyage of the mind. A little tale I like to call: Buffy, Slayer of the Vampyrs."
Favorite Moment No. 10: Xander to Cordelia in "Angel": "I don't know what everyone's talking about. That outfit doesn't make you look like a hooker." Xander and Cordy's endless banter made for some of the most comedic moments of the first three seasons.
Favorite Moment No. 9: The opening scene of the first episode, "Welcome to the Hellmouth," shows a guy and girl sneaking into Sunnydale High School at night. He's acting all suave. She's acting all scared. He's giving us the icky feeling. She's making us yell, "Run away, you idiot!" Suddenly, the school girl we would come to know (and either love or hate) as Darla vamps out, kills the poor dude, and flips an entire genre on its head in two minutes. Well played, show. Well played.
Favorite Moment No. 8: In "The Pack" a gang of students turned hyenas (including Xander) eat the school mascot and then principal Flutie. While that is just made of pure win on its own, it also allowed for principal Snyder to make his debut at Sunnydale, which makes us love it even more.
Favorite Moment No. 7: Cordelia in "Welcome to the Hellmouth": "Nice dress, Willow. Glad you've seen the softer side of Sears." Best. Mean. Girl. Ever. Don't argue, you'll always be wrong.
Favorite Moment No. 6: On what grounds were you considered cool at Sunnydale High? You have to be so over Vamp nail polish. You should want James Spader to call you. You think frappaccinos are trendy, but tasty. You must think John Tesh is the devil. Oh, 1997. It was a simpler time.
Favorite Moment No. 5: Buffy in "Never Kill a Boy on the First Date": "If the apocalypse comes, beep me." Iconic.
Favorite Moment No. 4: The library. OK, we know. This isn't a moment, it's a place. But it's THE place. This is where our Scooby Gang did their demon research, where Giles (!!!) trained Buffy, and where every true "Buffy" fan's heart will eternally lie. The Magic Box was no Sunnydale High School library.
Favorite Moment No. 3: After Buffy has died and just come back to life in "Prophecy Girl" she says, "We saved the world. I say we party. I mean, I got all pretty." And this is why she is the greatest heroine of all-time.
Favorite Moment No. 2: Angel isn't a tall, broody, mysterious hot guy. He's a tall, broody, mysterious hot vampire! Arguable the best episode of the show's freshman season, "Angel" was the big one, the one that changed Buffy Summers' life forever. The leather-clad hottie who Buffy totally did not call a "hunk" with "penetrating eyes" in her diary (she so did) turns out to be the very thing she was born to kill. Cue one of the most epic love stories ever told (unless you're a Spike fan. Then we totally don't mean that. Please don't stake us).
Favorite Moment No. 1: Giles in "The Harvest" to Willow and Xander: "The Slayer hunts vampires. Buffy is a Slayer. Don't tell anyone." And with those words our Scooby Gang is born. Say what you will about the endless love saga that was Buffy, Angel and Spike, but the real heart of the show was the core four: Buffy, Willow, Xander and Giles. Let's be honest: Buffy never would have survived seven seasons (in fact, she wouldn't have even made it past the first) without her trusty sidekicks. Buffy was the ultimate slayer not because of her skills or her pretty hair (and it was really pretty), but because of the team around her. We think Spike said it best in "School Hard" when he says, "A Slayer with family and friends. That sure as hell wasn't in the brochure."
