Bunny Mellon had a 'wonderful time' helping John Edwards cover affair with Rielle Hunter
The heiress to the Mellon banking fortune gave Edwards aides $725,000 to keep the affair with videographer Rielle Hunter during his 2008 campaign, by labeling checks as furniture money. The payments were known as "Bunny money."
"She said that we were awfully foolish with the 'furniture business,'" referring to the affair money, but added, "But we were having a wonderful time doing it." She didn't mind the affair, according to Huffman but felt that he wasn't being responsible "You should probably pay for your girlfriend yourself."
Huffman testified at Edwards' trial in U.S. District Court in Greensboro, N.C. The charges are six felony counts of accepting about $1 million in illegal and unreported campaign donations. Mellon is not expected to testify.
