Carly Rae Jepsen throws a terrible first pitch for Tampa Bay Rays game

Carly Rae Jepsen can sing, but she may not be so good at pitching. The pop star's opening pitch at a Tampa Bay Rays game on Sunday (July 14) was a dud -- instead of heading to home plate, the ball went straight down.

It wasn't pretty.

Jepsen had been scheduled to perform as part of the Rays Summer Concert Series later that same afternoon, so the baseball team thought her an obvious choice to throw out that opening pitch before the game against the Houston Astros.

They weren't expecting her to fail so thoroughly.

After a strong wind-up and what looked like good form, the Canadian singer apparently held onto the baseball for just a little too long. It landed with a solid thud just feet from Jepsen's position and then slowly rolled across the ground toward the first-base line.

While Jepsen is hardly the first celebrity to mess-up a first pitch, she did it with unusual style. It's especially notable because this isn't the first time the singer has had the honor of an opening pitch. When she appeared for the task at a Baltimore Orioles game earlier this season, Carly Rae Jepsen threw a strike!

Maybe that was beginner's luck?

Whatever the case, Jepsen didn't let the baseball failure get her down. She reacted with exaggerated movements, covering her face in mock shame while giggling. Eventually, she threw up her hands in defeat.
