adam-levine-carson-daly-gi.jpgIt's no secret that being named People's Sexiest Man Alive is a terrific way to pick up women, which is why "The Voice" host Carson Daly thinks 2013's honoree, Adam Levine, would've been better served by the title if he was single. (Although, if you've earned the distinction, you likely didn't have much trouble in that department to begin with.)

Zap2it spoke with Daly backstage at the hit NBC singing competition on Tuesday (Nov. 19), just after he officially revealed his pal's cover on live TV. When asked what benefits he thought Levine's title would afford him, the host answered, "If he could've had this honor five years ago, when he wasn't engaged, it might have been a better card to play, right? Any of us would've appreciated that when you're single, but you get it when you're married, you're like, 'Thanks a lot!' Long overdue, though. Sorry, Hugh Jackman." (Levine proposed to model Behati Prinsloo in July.)

This latest achievement for the Maroon 5 frontman will only add to the intense egos on set, Daly jokes. "I mean, Blake [ Shelton's] won this f***er three times in a row now," he says, before referencing to Levine, who's standing beside him on the red carpet. "This guy, Sexiest Man Alive, I mean, what are you gonna do? I mean, we need trailers for these guys' heads."

As for the big revelation, Daly admits that, despite his producer status on the show, he wasn't in on the big moment. "That wasn't me. That happened an hour before the show," he says. "[Our] producer came up to me and said, 'I haven't told anybody this except our director and a few people. The first cover, there's been tons of speculation. People probably know, but it hasn't been confirmed yet, and let's do that tonight. We have People magazine's blessing to do that.' And they gave me the cover and they said, 'What do you want to do?' And I said, 'Well, maybe at the top of the second act, before I talk to the coaches, we'll just whip it on him and have some fun over it.' And that's what we did. It seemed fun. It was fun to watch him squirm a little bit."

Did you enjoy watching Levine squirm as Daly made the official announcement? And do you think he's missing out on some of the perks considering he's engaged? Sound off in the comments below.
