Casting Call: 50 Cent falls 'Apart'; Stephen Merchant granted a 'Hall Pass'

Born Curtis Jackson, 50 Cent will team up with Randall Emmet  feature "Things Fall Apart," reports Variety.

The film revolves around a college football running back (Jackson) who must endure a personal tragedy and face his own death. He'll reportedly lose 65 pounds to play the role.

Jackson has previously starred in "Get Rich or Die Tryin'," "Righteous Kill" and "Twelve," a film starring "Gossip Girl's" Chace Crawford that premiered at Sundance.

Mario Van Peebles is set to direct, based on a script by Jackson and Brian Miller. Production will begin in May.

Jackson, under the Cheetah Vision Films banner also recently wrapped shooting the Val Kilmer and AnnaLynne McCord ("90210") film "The Gun."
 
In other casting news ...

THR reports that Stephen Merchant and J.B. Smoove are joining the relationship romp "Hall Pass," which so far has cast Owen Wilson, Jenna Fischer, Jason Sudeikis and Amanda Bynes. In the Farrelly Brothers flick, married buddies Rick (Wilson) and Fred (Sudeikis) get a so-called hall pass from their wives to have extramarital encounters.

Merchant and Smoove will play the pals who help Rick and Fred get their swerve on when they go out. Fischer plays Rick's wife.

Merchant recently debuted HBO's animated "The Ricky Gervais Show," the cartoon version of their popular podcast. He's also known for writign and directing "The Office" and "Extras."  Smoove has appeared on "Curb Your Enthusiasm" and "Everybody Hates Chris."
