The obstacles facing Castle ( Nathan Fillion) and Beckett ( Stana Katic) at the start of the ABC series' fourth season are, in the interest of avoiding a dramatic word, numbered.

Last we saw "Castle's" unconsummated duo, admissions of love were made and bullets, both metaphoric and literal, were taken dangerously close to the heart. So while we thought that keeping both halves of this partnership alive was our biggest concern, apparently we have to worry about another woman coming into the mix.

As first reported by TVLine, "The Killing" actress Kristin Lehman will join the series for a potentially recurring as a new love interest for Castle, leading us to the conclusion that Beckett emerges from her near-death experience with no recollection of his teary "I love you" or he's brutally rebuffed.

Described as a seriously sexy art insurance investigator, Lehman's character has both a checkered past and a fondness for Castle.

Lehman, who previously starred with Fillion on the short-lived FOX drama "Drive," played Billy Campbell's girlfriend and right hand, Gwen, on the first season of AMC's "The Killing." And given the lingering mystery over Rosie Larson's killer, and Gwen's suspicious behavior, we doubt we've seen the last of her there.

Season 4 of "Castle" kicks off Sept. 19, at 10:00 p.m. ET, on ABC.
