For five seasons now, the identity of Richard Castle's father has remained a mystery. Even the characters didn't know who he was! But we will soon be getting some answers to the big paternity question: James Brolin has been cast in the father role on "Castle."

Brolin will appear on the show during a two-part episode (airing on Feb. 18 and Feb. 25) scheduled for the winter sweeps period (as first reported by TVLine). During the episodes, Castle ( Nathan Fillion) and Beckett ( Stana Katic) will be investigating a murder that ties into a plot to kidnap the daughter of a rich Middle Eastern businessman.

How will Castle's long-lost daddy figure into this? We have absolutely no idea. Considering the little we know about the man, however -- last season's CIA-heavy episode indicated that Papa Castle might be a high-end spy of some sort -- an international kidnapping plot doesn't seem too far-fetched.

The Emmy-winning Brolin (for "Marcus Welby, M.D.") will guest-star alongside Dylan Walsh ( "Nip/Tuck"), an FBI agent involved in the murder and kidnapping cases.

If Brolin playing an absent father seems familiar to you, that's because this is actually the second such announcement for winter 2013 casting. James Brolin will also be playing the absentee father of Jeff Winger ( Joel McHale) on "Community" Season 4.

"Castle" airs Mondays at 10pm on ABC.
