Cate Edwards and Dr. Trevor Upham to marry in Chapel Hill
Cate's mother Elizabeth passed away from breast cancer just two weeks after Cate and Trevor became engaged, but Cate tells Glamour that the two of them got to work on wedding preparations as much as they could in the short time they had.
"I feel so lucky to have shared that joy with her, to have had the time to leaf through bridal magazines together and talk about the wedding. I feel blessed because, in her last weeks, she told me she was comforted to know I'd set forth on my own life path, with someone she loved and respected, and with whom she truly believed I would be happy," writes Cate.
Cate's parents had become estranged due to John Edwards' affair with campaign staff member Rielle Hunter and subsequent child from the affair, Frances Quinn, now 3. But Edwards will be walking his daughter down the aisle for her wedding.
Edwards' federal trial for allegedly violating campaign finance laws by paying to hush up his affair and the child with campaign funds was set to start in October 2011, but Edwards petitioned the judge to postpone because of his daughter's wedding. The trial begins in January 2012.
The New York Times reports the on the details about the wedding: 150 invitations were sent out. Trevor's father Chris is the best man and Cate's siter Emma Claire is the maid of honor. Cate's brother Jack will be a groomsman. The ceremony is at a Methodist church in Chapel Hill, with the reception following at the family estate.
For those who like granular details on weddings, a few facts: About 150 invitations have been sent for what will be a long weekend of parties, starting with welcoming cocktails on Thursday. Dr. Upham's father, Chris, is serving as his best man. Ms. Edwards's sister, Emma Claire, 13, will be maid of honor, and her 11-year-old brother, Jack, will be a groomsman.
Congratulations to Cate and Trevor.
