CBS gives James Van Der Beek comedy 'Friends With Better Lives' series order

james-van-der-beek-pilot.jpgCBS is continuing to add to its comedy stable, ordering its fifth sitcom for the 2013-14 season on Sunday (May 11).

"Friends With Better Lives," from "Friends" producer Dana Klein, is a traditional multi-cam centered on a group of thirtysomething friends who each think the other has it better. Playing those friends? James Van Der Beek, Kevin Connolly ("Entourage"), Brooklyn Decker ("Battleship"), Rick Donald (Australia's "Home and Away"), Zoe Lister Jones ("Whitney") and Majandra Delfino ("Roswell").

Along with "Friends With Better Lives," the Tiffany Network has ordered Chuck Loore's "Mom," Tony Shalhoub vehicle "We Are Men,' Robin Williams-Sarah Michelle Gellar starrer "Crazy Ones" and Will Arnett's latest, "The Millers."

CBS is bulking up on comedy as it's prepping for "How I Met Your Mother" to end after next year's ninth season. The network failed to have a new comedy stick this season, with "Partners" fizzling fast and "Friend Me" never even making it to the air.
