CBS Houston calls OKC Thunder cheerleader 'too chunky,' not busty enough

A cheerleader for NBA's Oklahoma City Thunder is under fire for her physique at CBS Local in Houston, Tex.

A writer for the site -- who is apparently a poor sport about the Houston Rockets losing Game 1 of the playoffs to the Thunder -- took her frustrations out on "the pretty blonde" with an article whose headline reads, "Is This Girl 'Too Chunky' To Be An OKC Thunder Cheerleader?"

The article includes a poll with the following choices:

  • "She has the perfect look to be an NBA cheerleader"
  • "She could use some tightening up in her midsection"
  • "She has no business wearing that outfit in front of people"

"We're not trying to be ugly," writes the author of the story. "We are just discussing what men like in women, specifically NBA cheerleaders."

The article claims the cheerleader in question "has been criticized for having 'pudginess' around her waistline." CBS graciously offers their acceptance of the woman's willingness to don the Thunder cheerleader costume, however, noting that, "If she's comfortable wearing that tiny outfit and dancing for NBA fans, then good for her."

After  Busted Coverage brought attention to the hit piece, one line was removed from the live post. It read, "Either way, I wish she had a little more up on top, if you know what I mean ..."

The CBS Local byline is anonymous, but the website Jezebel identified the author of the story and linked to her Twitter page. That Twitter account has since been deactivated. A link to the CBS Houston article is also no longer active, but no explanation is given at the website.

Kelsey, the allegedly "pudgy" cheerleader, is a third year veteran of the OKC Thunder Girls. According to her official profile on the Thunder website, Kelsey has been dancing since she was four-years-old, loves Andy Warhol and "Sex and the City," and wants to work in the fashion industry.

CBS Local is a division of CBS Radio, and is not associated with the CBS television affiliate in Houston.
