'Celebration of Harry Potter' convention coming from Warner Bros. and Universal Orlando
Warner Bros. is putting together a "Celebration of Harry Potter" in 2014. For the first time, the studio will join forces with Universal Orlando Resort to create an official "Harry Potter" convention set in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
A press release announced the "Celebration of Harry Potter" will take place in Orlando from Jan. 24 to 26. The convention will include Q&As with some of the actors and filmmakers involved in the franchise, as well as freature various presentations like the art of dueling wands masterclass from the Warner Bros. Studio Tour in London.
Of course, this is far from the first "Harry Potter" fan convention. For years, LeakyCon has been the go-to convention for fans of "Harry Potter" to gather, while the HPEF (Harry Potter Education Fanon, Inc.) put on several different conventions. Hopefully Warner Bros. will still work alongside these organizations that have been instrumental in keeping the "Harry Potter" fandom alive over the years in addition to using this convention to create a new way to keep the dialogue about the beloved fantasy series going.
Though there's a chance "A Celebration of Harry Potter" could align itself with the opening of the Diagon Alley expansion Universal is building, it doesn't seem likely. So expect to see a lot of construction taking place at the theme park while you're drinking your butterbeer and riding Harry Potter's "Forbidden Journey."
Universal Orlando is selling special vacation packages starting on Aug. 22 that allow fans an even more intimate experience at the "Celebration of Harry Potter." The packages start from $395 to $675 per person, and include access to a private evening reception during the convention, reserved seating, and early access into the Islands of Adventure and Universal Orlando theme parks. These packages can be booked here.
