Charlie Daniels says Boy Scouts 'important' in helping today's youth
"I remember the camping and the camaraderie. The Boy Scouts of America motivate you to do better and be better than you are," says Daniels.
"I am deeply concerned about the youth today. Temptation for today's youth is varied. That's why what you do today is so important. ... As a Boy Scout growing up, I've recited the Scout Oath many times, but how many times did I really think about the words I was reciting?" he continues.
When asked about the Boy Scouts refusal to allow gay scouts and scoutmasters, which is coming to a vote within the organization this spring, Daniels was hesitant to weigh in.
"I definitely have feelings about it, but I'm not a part of the Boy Scout leadership or organization. What I have to say will not have any influence on what decision they make," says Daniels.
However, the Daily News Journal points out that Daniels' remarks ended with, "And I hope we protect them from those who would change the organization."
