"Sons of Anarchy" star Charlie Hunnam won't play Christian Grey after all. The actor has dropped out of the upcoming "Fifty Shades of Grey," according to a statement from Universal Pictures.

"The filmmakers of 'Fifty Shades of Grey' and Charlie Hunnam have agreed to find another male lead given Hunnam's immersive TV schedule which is not allowing him time to adequately prepare for the role of Christian Grey."

"Fifty Shades" author E.L. James tweeted, "I wish Charlie all the best." Hunnam currently stars on "Sons of Anarchy," which is in production on Season 6, with one more to follow in 2014. The cast and crew of the show were very supportive with Hunnam snagging the role initially. Dakota Johnson is still attached to star as Anastasia Steele.

"Fifty Shades of Grey" is aiming for a 2014 release.
