Chaz Bono gets extra 'Dancing With the Stars' security on the lot

chaz-bono-lacey-schwimmer-twitter.jpg Chaz Bono has been drawing attention as the first transgendered "Dancing With the Stars" contestant -- and not all of the attention has been positive. According to TMZ, Bono has been assigned a heightened security detail due to an "element of hatred" targeted toward him.

The activist will receive extra protection on the CBS Television City lot in West Hollywood, as well as additional support throughout his day while he's not on set.

TMZ's source says that there have been no specific threats against Bono. The concern is that controversy about his activism and his very public transformation from a female body to a male body may generate violence. There has already been heated debate as to whether he should dance with a female pro or a male pro.

On Bono's part, the dancing is the scary part. "It's challenging, but improvements have been made, for sure," he told Joy Behar on HLN.
