'Check It Out! with Dr. Steve Brule' heads to 'Church' in new clip

Dr. Steve Brule is back for more misadventures in "Check It Out!" Season 3, episode 2, "Church." Zap2it has an exclusive clip from the episode, which shows Steve heading to a Lutheran church to learn more about religion from priest Dan Hooper.

In the clip, Steve shares some dark details of his childhood and fixates on Dan's earring. The humor in the video should be enhanced by the knowledge that Dan was not an actor, and is a genuine priest.

"Everyone on the show, except for our kind of recurring characters who are Steve's family or friends, everyone who's interviewed on the show is real. Oftentimes we go to their place of business or their office or whatever, and that's true of all the seasons," star John C. Reilly tells Zap2it. "That guy was the priest at that church, and the church allowed us to film there. He may have regretted it by the time we were done there."

He continues, "The priest was actually a really cool guy. I think it was a Lutheran church. If you did that at a Catholic church, I think after my first one or two questions we would be escorted out."

The synopsis for episode 2 reads: "Dr. Steven Brule checks out what it means to go to Church and what god is?"

As for the Season 3 premiere, "Planes," Reilly says Steve probably didn't get the psychological help he needed after the traumatic events of that episode.

"Steve did not get therapy. Steve can't even afford to put gas in his car. He doesn't have money for that. He doesn't have money for basic health care, let alone therapy," Reilly says. "I think that's one of the reasons for the transformation that's occurred to him over the seasons of the show. I think it's a result of his diet, some psychological things he's had happen to him and just not being a super intelligent person to begin with."

"Check It Out! with Dr. Steve Brule" airs Thursday (March 6) at 12:30 a.m. on Adult Swim. Zap2it will have more sneak peeks and more insight from Reilly into the show each week.
