Chevy Chase leaving NBC's 'Community' after four seasons
Most of Season 4's 13-episode order has already been filmed -- save one or two episodes -- but since Chase's departure is effective immediately, his character, Pierce Hawthorne, will not appear in the final episodes.
Chase's time on the show has been tumultuous at best. In a recent interview with the Huffington Post UK, he calls his decision to do the show "a big mistake." Plus, there was his feud with the show's creator and former showrunner, Dan Harmon, which included a nasty voicemail Chase left for Harmon, who left the series at the end of Season 3. Chase has also reportedly had some on-set outbursts, including an October tirade in which he used the N-word.
Deadline reports that people close to the actor say Chase was "increasingly frustrated and uncomfortable with the direction of his character, Pierce, who is a bigot, and had felt that the Pierce had run his course."
Season 4 of "Community" premieres Feb. 7 at 8 p.m.
