Chris Bauer on playing Chris Berman in an ESPN movie: 'I think that's a great idea!'
"You're kidding me!" Bauer laughs delightedly. "I think that's a great idea. I think that guy is incredibly talented. I'm a total ESPN watcher and he is one of those guys who has mixed personality and entertainment with information."
"That's awesome," Bauer continues. "I think that rumor should really gather some steam and we should make a deal. He's got about five inches on me, though, that guy is huge."
We hope that rumor gathers some steam too, we think Bauer could really do Berman justice on the big screen. We also had to ask Bauer what his sports teams are. Turns out he's a bit of a fair-weather fan, but he has some good reasons.
"I would have to say that because I've lived in so many citeis by no means do I feel it's fair to call myself a 'fan' of any particular teams," Bauer admits. "I've lived in New York for a long time and I did this movie about the Yankees called '*61.' I found out a lot about the Yankees during that time, so I love the Yankees, I've watched the Yankees. But I was born and raised in LA, so I was also, frankly up to this season, a Dodgers fan. But that team is falling apart."
"I'm also a football guy, I love college football and I love pro football," continues Bauer. "This is how fair-weathered I am. I used to be a Giants fan, but my son who's turning 12 has really gotten into football and he likes the Jets, so I totally jumped ships so we can root for the same team."
We'll allow it. Father-son relationships are one of the best things about sports.
