'Chuck' has a 'Hart to Hart'-felt moment
Why, pray tell, is "Chuck" re-creating (more or less) the opening credits from "Hart to Hart"? There's a better answer than "because it's funny" -- although it is.
It actually pertains to Monday's (May 3) episode, "Chuck vs. the Role Models." The episode finds Chuck ( Zachary Levi) and Sarah ( Yvonne Strahovski) assigned to training in how to be both effective spies and a functional couple; to that end, they're told to meet up with veteran spies Craig and Laura Turner (guest stars Fred Willard and Swoosie Kurtz).
"I play kind of a Robert Wagner-type character," Willard tells Zap2it, which "Chuck" co-creator Chris Fedak says was a conscious decision on the show's part.
"Chuck and Sarah, because they're now a couple, they need to learn how to be a couple and also be spies," Fedak tells us. "So they work with a famous spy team, and they're very much modeled on 'Hart to Hart.'"
Except for this: The Turners can no longer stand one another. Willard (who also guested on "Modern Family" last week) says viewers can expect to see multiple double-crosses, as well as "guns, wrestling and intrigue."
Guns, wrestling and intrigue? OK then. "Chuck" airs at 8 p.m. ET Monday on NBC. Here's a preview of the episode.
