Clive Owen's 'The Knick' gets premiere date on Cinemax

clive-owen-the-knick-cinemax.jpgCinemax's new medical drama "The Knick" is checking in Friday, Aug. 8, the network announced Friday (May 16).

Set in 1900 New York, "The Knick" follows the lives of the surgeons, nurses and support staff at Knickerbocker Hospital, located in Manhattan and founded in 1862. The series stars Clive Owen as one of the doctors who was pushing the boundaries of medicine at a time with no antibiotics and a very high mortality rate.

Steven Soderbergh, the Academy Award-winning director of "Traffic," will direct all 10 episodes of Season 1. He is surrounded by the writing team of Jack Amiel and Michael Begler, with Gregory Jacobs and Michael Polaire ("Behind the Candelabra") co-executive producing alongside Soderbergh and star Owen.

Also starring are Andre Holland, Eve Hewson, Jeremy Bobb, Juliet Rylance, Michael Angarano, Chris Sullivan, Cara Seymour, Eric Johnson, David Fierro, Maya Kazan, Grainger Hines and Leon Addison Brown.

Production began last September in New York. Above left is a shot from the filming, while below is the recently-released teaser trailer.
