CMT Awards 2012: Hot Chelle Rae joins Lady Antebellum for 'Own The Night' mash up

hot-chelle-rae-lady-antebellum-cmt-awards-getty.jpgWho says country music can't be hip? Country faves Lady Antebellum opened the CMT Awards show this year with their song "Own The Night." They began the song in the audience, with Hillary Scott standing out from the crowd thanks to some bright purple sparkles.

Since "Own the Night" has already been the victim of some radio overplay, they added a fun new twist to keep it fresh for fans .

We were surprised when pop-rock band Hot Chelle Rae joined Scott, Charles Kelley, and Dave Haywood on stage, turning "Own The Night" into a mash-up with their pop anthem "Tonight, Tonight."

In case you're not familiar with Hot Chelle Rae, the band members are brothers Ryan and Jamie Follesé, Ian Keaggy, and Nash Overstreet -- the brother of "Glee" star Chord Overstreet. "Tonight, Tonight" went double platinum last year, so if you haven't heard it -- well, you've probably had your dial tuned to the country station a bit too long.
